Jason Grant joined the Department of Agricultural & Applied Economics at Virginia Tech as an assistant professor in 2007. He received a B.A. in Agricultural Studies & Economics from the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada; an M.S. in Agricultural Economics & Business from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada; and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University. Jason’s research focuses on international trade and policy. He maintains an active interest in the international trade negotiations, bilateral and regional trade agreements, trade disputes, and tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade. Examples of his current research are: (i) measuring the trade flow effects of regional trade agreements with emphasis on implementation and phase-in periods; (ii) evaluating the effectiveness of the WTO to promote successful regional trade agreements; (iii) assessing the effects of tariff-rate-quota administration methods on trade and welfare using new tariff-line simulation techniques; and (iii) using applied demand analysis to estimate the likeness of product criterion in formal trade disputes.
Jason will be teaching international trade theory at the undergraduate and graduate levels for students in both the Department of Agricultural & Applied Economics and the Department of Economics at Virginia Tech. He also teaches an undergraduate course on agricultural price risk management strategies using futures & options markets.
Aside from work, Jason enjoys spending time with his wife, Jen, golfing, hiking, snow-skiing, water-skiing, and playing the piano and guitar.
