Dixie W. Reaves |
Dixie Watts Reaves joined the faculty during the summer of 1993, having previously been both an undergraduate and masters student in the department. Her primary interests are in agribusiness youth education, agribusiness product and service marketing, and the impacts of agricultural and environmental policy on economic decision-making. Her current research focuses on the economic impacts of tobacco in Virginia and how producers and their communities are adjusting to change in the tobacco industry. She has served as President of the Food Distribution Research Society and President of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Faculty Association.
In her youth education efforts, she works with the Virginia Council of Farmer Cooperatives (VCFC) and other state co-op councils to educate high school students about agribusiness management, and she serves on the planning committees for the VCFC Youth Leadership Conference and the National Institute on Cooperative Education.
Professor Reaves' teaching responsibilities include the undergraduate food and agribusiness marketing management course; the farm, cooperative and agribusiness management course; a course on cooperatives' impacts on the human condition; and courses on the freshman experience and internships. She serves as co-advisor to the National Agri-marketing Association (NAMA) student competition team, the AgEcon/NAMA Club, and Sigma Alpha. In her spare time, she enjoys playing softball and golf, and watching college sports.
