Alex White |
Alex was born and raised on a small farm in northeastern Maryland, where he was very active in 4-H. He received his BS in Agricultural Economics from Virginia Tech, focusing on farm management and agricultural financial management. Alex received his MS in Ag Econ from Ohio State, concentrating in farm management. His Ph.D. is from Virginia Tech, where his research centered on retirement planning strategies for agricultural producers and small business owners.
Alex has taught a wide variety of college courses at Ohio State, NC State, and Virginia Tech for the past 15 years. The courses he has taught include Agribusiness Management, Ag Financial Management, Farm Business Management, Small Business Management & Entrepreneurship, Computer Applications in Agriculture, and Personal Financial Management. Alex has worked as a computer programmer for an agricultural software firm. He has also served as an extension agent and an extension specialist (personal financial management) for Virginia Cooperative Extension.
Currently, Alex is an Instructor in the Agricultural and Applied Economics at Virginia Tech.
Outside of work, Alex’s main hobbies are woodworking, marksmanship, competitive slow-pitch softball, renovating his house, and playing around on farms every chance he can get. He still remains active with the 4-H program in his home county in Maryland.
