Welcome to the teachers' section of the agricultural biotechnology learning area. The lessons presented on this website cover Virginia Standards of Learning in Life Sciences, Biology, Civics and Economics, Earth Science, Government, World History, and World Geography. They are broken into four units.

Unit 1: Agricultural Biotechnology--A review of Public Issues discusses the current and future benefits of GM crop technologies, risks, as well as social and consumer issues with biotechnology.

Unit 2: Applications in Agricultural Biotechnology--The Case of Plant-Made Medicines investigates protein theorapies, bio-pharming, and social aspects of plant-made pharmaceuticals.

Unit 3: Applications in Agricultural Biotechnology--Genetically Modified Rice studies the impact of rice on world population and world hunger as well as the issues and impacts of rice biotechnologies.

Unit 4: Agricultural Biotechnology and Developing Nations--Activity and Implications travels the world discovering the impacts of GM crops around the world and their implications for social change.
