Surveys: United States

A focus group discusses relevant issues

Beginning in late 2001 and continuing throughout most of 2002, project investigators conducted a series of qualitative, participatory, information-gathering inverviews to collect opinions on issues and concerns with respect to: 1) using transgenic tobacco to produce pharmaceuticals and 2) producing GM rice in the U.S. These participatory appraisals served to frame issues and research questions which were addressed in subsequent economic models and quantitative surveys.Sketch of Americans on the telephone

Following the participatory appraisals, computer-assisted telephone interviews were conducted from May to August, 2003 using a nationally representative sample of telephone numbers within the U.S. One survey discussed GM rice while another described a pharmaceutical application of transgenic tobacco.
